« C'est cette photo qui m'a orienté vers une carrière de photographe de rock & roll. J'ai pris cette photo d'Ace le 18 février 1977, lorsque KISS a joué au Madison Square Garden lors de leur tournée Rock and Roll Over. À la fin de l'année, KISS était de retour à New York pour trois concerts à guichets fermés au Madison Square Garden. J'ai imprimé quelques centaines de photos du concert au MSG que j'avais prises plus tôt dans l'année et je me suis rendu à la salle pour le premier spectacle. J'ai attendu que la foule sorte après le spectacle, puis j'ai commencé à vendre des photos. J'ai été arrêté par la police pour avoir vendu mes photos et j'ai passé la nuit en prison. Après ma sortie, j'ai passé les jours suivants à monter un portfolio de mon travail, puis je l'ai apporté aux bureaux du magazine Circus à Manhattan. Par chance, le directeur artistique n'était pas en période de bouclage, et lui et l'éditeur, Gerald Rothberg, m'ont accueilli dans son bureau. Ils ont aimé mes photographies et m'ont dit de rester en contact et de les tenir informés des concerts que je prévoyais de photographier. The print quality on this MSG shot is unreal — you can make out the texture of Ace's spaceman costume and the sweat on his face. Hung it above my turntable and it instantly became the focal point of the room.

Bought this as a gift for my dad who saw them on that same tour, and the print quality holds up way better than I expected for a 1977 concert shot. Only gripe is the paper feels a bit thin, so frame it before it gets bent. Ace's makeup and the Les Paul come through sharp even at full size.

The photo has this gritty, live-energy feel that matches the story behind it—you can tell it was shot from the pit, not a glossy promo. Print quality on the matte paper is solid, though I wish the listing included the exact dimensions before I ordered. Still, a great piece for any KISS fan's wall.
