Caught Frank mid-solo in this shot, and the lighting on his face is just gorgeous. It's a genuine live moment from the December 1981 Berkeley show, not some posed promo image. Hung it above my record shelf and it fits right in.
The black-and-white printing is sharper than I expected for a live concert shot — you can actually make out the frets on his guitar. It came carefully packed in a rigid mailer, so no bent corners. Perfect addition to the wall above my turntable.
The shot itself is a great piece of Zappa history, and the black-and-white quality gives it a proper live-show feel. But the print arrived a bit darker than the preview on my screen, so some of the stage detail gets lost in the shadows. Still, for a fan of that 1981 tour, it’s a decent keepsake.
