Marilyn Monroe, The Nude Sweater Sitting, 1953

While on their first assignment for Look magazine in 1953 and after a full day of shooting, everyone went home leaving the Marilyn Monroe and Milton H. Greene alone.

It was at that time that Milton asked very politely if Marilyn would take off her clothes and put on a black sweater coat that Milton's wife had brought from New York. He also asked if he could take the bandage off her ankle, which she had sprained during the filming of River of No Return and was given four days off. Since her ankle was very painful, she couldn't stand and ended up kneeling for the entire roll of film.

Together they created this nude sweater-coat series, which at the time, was considered much too risque for publishing.
